Our Tunes I Immerse yourself in Sound

The Contemporary Music Centre presents Our Tunes – Immerse Yourself in Sound as part of the Dublin’s MusicTown festival.

This unique music event for children aged 6-10  is curated by cellist Adrian Mantu, Galway Music Residency/ RTÉ ConTempo Quartet.

Children will set out on a musical journey from listening to creating. Exploring music through the ages, they will be encouraged to discover and be intrigued by the eclectic cellist, the virtuoso pan pipes player, the mesmerising flute & singer duo, the happy violist and the skilled percussionist performing with water.

Renowned composer Karen Power will then lead them in a music composition workshop, which will allow them to experience different ways of constructing musical ideas from sound. Engaging them to listen and respond to sounds that can be made with everyday materials or organic instruments, Karen will encourage an alternative listening, responding and creative musical experience.

Our Tunes – Immerse Yourself in Sound will culminate in a collaborative celebration of sounds and musical ideas when the children perform on their organic instruments alongside the musicians, creating together a soundscape of music in a joint sound response that lies outside the realm of traditional melody-making.
